Each year, the Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office honors the agency’s longest-serving employees by presenting them with service pin awards. Our public servants receive a service pin for every five years of service with the agency.

Anthony Galindo — 40 Years of Service

Anthony Galindo started his career at the GLO as an oil desk auditor in 1976. It was his first job offer right out of college, and it included benefits! There were no computers at the time, of course, so all his work was completely manually. In 1998, he was transferred to another department to oversee accounting for our future Texas State Veterans Homes.

“I feel very blessed to have worked here my entire career and for the lifelong friends I’ve made at the GLO.”

He advises new employees to make the best of their time at the agency—and reminds them to invest in their 401(k) accounts!

Anthony continues his work for the GLO as an accountant for the Texas Veterans Land Board.

Douglas Howard — 35 Years of Service

Douglas’ career at the GLO began when his former employer who worked at the agency urged him to apply for a draftsman position. With skills from his previous job as a surveyor and civil engineer under his belt, Douglas was brought on to work in our surveying department.

When he started working at the agency, he remembers the survey director telling him to “learn as much as you can about what we do.” That advice has kept his career interesting.

“When work becomes monotonous, I try to imagine a way to do the same work in a lesser amount of time. Be creative.”

Douglas continues his work for the GLO in surveying services under our Asset Enhancement division.

Amanda Allen — 30 Years of Service

Amanda Allen’s career at the GLO started when her husband heard about a job listing at the agency and thought it would be a wonderful opportunity for her. Her first position was as a draftsman for mineral leasing; she worked by hand to indicate well placement on maps.

“[My favorite part about working at the GLO is] the great people I have had a chance to meet and work with.”

Amanda continues her work at the GLO as an oil and gas auditor, ensuring the Permanent School Fund receives all royalties due from companies leasing mineral rights on state land.

Charlotte Mumphord — 30 Years of Service

When Charlotte Mumphord’s family relocated to Austin, she took the opportunity to start a career at the GLO. Working her way up from her first position where she worked in the file room microfilming legal documents, Charlotte transferred to a position working with the Texas VLB loan program.

“I truly view my job as an opportunity and honor to serve those who have done so much for our country. I am very passionate about ensuring the veterans knows as an agency, we have their back in their mortgage financing endeavors.”

Charlotte continues her work with the GLO as the director of loan operations for the Texas VLB.

Felice Skillern — 30 Years of Service

Felice Skillern began working at the GLO when she was only 18 years old and in college. A seasoned agency veteran, Felice has held positions all across the agency, including in legal services, archives & records, and our information technology division.

“I’ve not only gained a work family but learned team working and communication skills.”

Felice continues her work at the GLO by providing customer service to Texas coast land owners from our field office in La Porte.
